2020 Updates to Fireworks Code

On December 14, 2020, the City Commission passed an ordinance that revised the City of Eudora Fireworks Code. The code revisions were developed by an 11-person committee composed of residents, business owners, City staff, and a City Commissioner who met and discussed the City codes around fireworks, researched comparative examples from other cities, and consulted with public safety professionals. These approved changes are reflected in the current code written above.

The changes included:

  • Moving the start time for sales and discharge of fireworks from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM for all days of the Eudora fireworks season (July 1-4)
  • Moving the end time for sales on July 3 & 4 up from midnight to 11:00 PM
  • Moving the end time for fireworks discharge on July 3 & 4 up from midnight to 11:30 PM
  • Adding a provision that makes discharging fireworks on City property illegal, which includes City-owned parks, buildings, and vacant property
  • Adopting the Kansas State Fire Marshal regulations on fireworks, which bans discharge of fireworks within the public roadway and within 100 feet of a "place of institution" or any retail fireworks stand/facility
